ad-just-ment (n) A modification, fluctuation or correction

Hello hello hello blog world! I apologize for my absence- I have been feeling extremely overwhelmed and a little uninspired lately hence my lack of posts. But have no fear (!) The stress has dispersed (anyone who knows me knows this is a lie) and the creative juices have started flowing again and man oh man do I have a lot to fill you in on!

I've gone through a lot of adjustments within the past month and a half- in my personal life, my home life, my love life and well just life in general. ::Insert David Bowie's "Changes" here::
I moved back to Virginia and I'm finally all settled in (3 weeks later) This move has not only made me realize that things change, people change, places change but to EMBRACE it. If you don't embrace that which you can't control you'll become a crazy person. Exhibit A being this girl. The time leading up to my move and a couple weeks after I was so stressed out. Miserably stressed out to be exact. Change can be a scary thing and I was mortified feeling that I wasn't coming home to the security blanket that I was expecting to be there. I'm learning to let go- which is a huge step for me considering I am a self-proclaimed control freak...baby steps. Luckily and surprisingly I have come home to an amazing support group of friends that I never imagined would be as close to me as they are. On the other hand some that I thought were super close, well, aren't anymore. I harbored pretty salty feelings about this for quite sometime but everything changes and that's okay. People come into your life for a reason and maybe when they leave its because their job has been done. At the end of the day Richmond makes me happy. And its time that I start worrying about what makes myself happy and not everyone else around me.
On the other side of the coin I miss my parents. I've always had a really close relationship with my parents and choosing to put myself 27 hours away is tough- most people will never experience this feeling. There's a feeling that I'm missing out on something, or what if something happens to them and I'm not there- again this is me letting go of that which I can't control. I also miss the people that I met in Texas, and the two-stepping, and Surf Club, and Mulligans, and the Santa Fe frat house, and being able to drive down ocean and see beautiful sparking aqua blue water. In a perfect world I would have all my friends from every corner of the universe all living in the same coul-de-sac. Oh well. In a perfect world...
As much as change and adaptation can suck its a good thing too, I have so many things to look forward to, catching up with old friends and making new ones, my career, and just my overall well being.

Bring it on River City, I'm ready for you.

Using Richmond as an Adjective

Happy Tuesday everybody!

So If you know anything about me then you know I talk about Richmond a lot, and today is no differnt, folks. I came across this blog called Dirty Richmond "The city is dirty but the people aren't" This blog was really cool for a couple reasons..
1. It's a blog about all things Richmond Fashion-ish. The creator walks around Richmond snapping pictures of people who epitomize what the fashion scene is like in the river city. I must say some are kinda quirky but hey, isn't that why we all love Richmond? It wouldn't be a day out in the city if you didn't look over to your friend and mumble, at least ONCE, "did you just see that ::insert article of clothing here:: that girl/guy was wearing?" whether it be good or bad.

2. It had some really great interviews with everyone from a foreign exchange student, to a chef in a restaurant, to a guy who started up his own clothing company. The culture in Richmond is fascinating to me.

3. It had 2 of my beautiful sorority sisters and a guy I went to middle school and high school with photographed! Pretty rad stuff.

-sigh- Can you tell I miss Richmond terribly? Unfortunately since the fashion scene HERE is ehm, lacking- everytime I'm in Austin I'm reminded of Richmond. I'll look at something and say to myself "thats so Richmond" and it usually brings a great big smile to my face.

This blog is totally going in my favorites. Immediately.

Virginia is for Lovers

And this, ladies and gentlemen is all the more reason why I can't wait to move back to Virginia.

I was doing the morning ritual when I came in to work: start up quickbooks, go get coffee, come back and get some early morning facebook creeping in before I'm a slave to numbers for the rest of the day. (admit it, you all do it too) Any who I have a wonderful friend named Lindsay who has recently gotten really into photography and her pictures are bananas. Naturally, I saw that she posted new pics and the one above caught my eye. Totally made my day. I hope it brings a smile to your face just as it did mine.

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

Ciao.

I have commitment issues.

Hello blog world! I have been wanting to start up a blog ever since I moved to Texas in July of '09 and I'm finally getting around to doing it. I've been putting this little ditty together since Monday- between the layouts and fonts and colors and the ever so important and catchy blog name. Geez the catchy blog name. I kept interupting my bff Linda at work with "what do you think of this for a name"..."no, nevermind I don't like that"..."hey I know you're in this uber important meeting but what do you think about this"... I'm sure you get the idea. Clearly you can see I have commitment issues. So I took some time, let it marinade and Voila! Here we are...

For those of you who don't know me, or don't know me all that well "somecallmejoyce" could be a bit confusing so I will elaborate, though it is really very simple. My last name is Joyce and while no one has ever called me anything other than Katie (expect for my parents because they call me Kate) in college there were about 7 Katies in my sorority and I guess Joyce just kinda caught on. I think I may have more people call my by my last name than by my first name. Ah well, I don't mind.

Unfortunately I have nothing cool to talk about today because my whole entire day (and by that I really mean my whole entire day) at work has been dedicated to getting this up and running...minus a couple time outs to do some e-shopping via g-chat with the lovely Linda Venema. Sidenote: if you haven't been into Anthropologie or atleast visited their website recently- do it. Go there now. They have some amazziinngg stuff. However I have been rocking out to Keaton Simmons all day, if you are not familiar than I suggest you get accquainted. He makes my little heart flutter. Hence the beautiful man at the top of the page. Mmmmmm....

ciao!
